Winter escape to St Mawes, Cornwall
A weekend in The Idle Rocks Hotel
Hello 2023! Hope everyone had a lovely break that we all deserved in 2022! Are you planning any escapes for this year already? I am! If Cornwall is on your list of options here is a little inspiration of a perfect destination for a long weekend: a few relaxing days at The Idle Rocks in a little town of St Mawes.
Day 1
Set off with Great Eastern Railways from Paddington in the morning and you’re in Truro by 1pm. After a short taxi drive (ask hotel to book you one to avoid a hustle of getting a taxi yourself, it’s not easy outside of London!) you will be checking in to your gorgeous seaview room in The Idle Rocks.
Start your weekend by filling up the bath with healing salts and watching sunset through the window (right from the bath) or come down to the lounge and relax by the fireplace with a Martini (I promise you, Pietro the bartender makes the best ones I’ve ever had). For the first dinner take a 10-minute walk to St Mawes Hotel. They have a cosy dining room and a secret cinema room! You can watch a movie after the delicious meal.
Day 2
After a wonderful breakfast served at The Idle Rocks take a 15-minute ferry to Falmouth for a day of exploring. This little town is buzzing with university students, lovely coffee-shops, bakeries and galleries! You’ll find many cute lunch spots or go for a traditional Cornish Pasty in the harbour.
After return to St Mawes enjoy tasting menu by Executive Head Chef of The Idle Rocks Dorian Janmaat, excellent experience! Can’t not to mention a special children menu, heaven for a family stay.
Day 3
Enjoy one more beautiful morning at Idle Rocks. In the afternoon, visit St Mawes castle (20 minutes picturesque coastal walk from the hotel). Built by Henry VIII own sketches it is a wonderful historical place to visit.
Check out around 3pm and jump on the train back to London. Enjoy five hours of First Class service of Great Western Railways (really recommend booking a first class for a long journey with a kid) and return to Paddington refreshed and ready to smash another week!
